Baby Keem Brings Album "The Melodic Blue" to Life in Baltimore

Earlier this year, Baby Keem announced he would be going back on the road to embark on a tour spanning 28 dates in support of his latest project, The Melodic Blue. Baby Keem’s music is a breath of fresh air in the world of music and in my opinion, a lot of his work is truly meant to be performed live. With that being said, I knew from the start it was gonna be an insane night.

While traveling from Philadelphia to Baltimore, I was intrigued and thought about the crowd that Keem would be bringing in during this tour. I would assume a lot of his fans would be around the ages of 19 to even 30. This proves to show how universal his sound really is. Keem’s music can be very hard and bass boosted at times, but is ultra soft and melodic with a lot of his newest sounds (hence his album titled Melodic Blue). When arriving to the venue, I realized the crowd was entirely what I thought it would be. While a lot of kids decided to gather on the ground floor to be closer to the artist, many of slightly older folks decided to vibe in the back closer to the bar and merchandise table that was being sold at the show. To no surprise, the venue's stage was small to provide a more intimate show. By the end of this year, Keem is certain to hit superstar status, but during this time he wants to give the crowd more of an intimate experience.

Going into his performance on March 15th, I was thrilled to see what he would bring to the stage. Keem’s music has been bubbling in my ears for about three years with notable tracks such as “Stats” , “16”, “Family Ties” (featuring cousin, Kendrick Lamar) and other tunes of his. Before Keem took the stage, he brought two supporting acts along, a DJ set by producer Bridgeway and new PG Lang signee, Tana Leone. Bridgeway’s DJ set was one of the most energetic and mosh-pit inducing sets I have ever been too. The man's crowd control was amazing as he played songs from notable artists such as Playboi Carti, Kanye West, and Meek Mills.

After his set, Tana Leone took the stage. While on my way to the venue, I took the time to tap in with this newer artist. With only two songs on his Spotify, I was instantly into the man's sound and beat selection. Also to my surprise, folks knew both tracks word for word with them just dropping a week before the show. This is an artist I am excited to see grow in the future.

At around 9:15, the venue lights all went dark and the crowd knew that Baby Keem’s time was here. At this moment, I decided to take a new approach from the first two sets and join the crowd on the floor. When I walked down, “Trademark USA” started to play with the crowd going crazy with energy. Keem definitely knew what he was doing, keeping the energy flowing from that track into “Hooligan”. After “Hooligan”, I decided to join in multiple mosh pits as a track of the same name started to blare from the venue speakers. While enjoying myself and viewing with the crowd throughout the night, I started realizing different details within his set. One thing that I thought was really interesting was his visuals and stage lighting while performing. A lot of his visuals were very bold, bright, and somewhat cinematic, knowing they were made for this tour. The lighting also was bright of course, but with vibrant blues, greens, and purples surrounding the performer. One of my favorite moments of the show was when Keem decided to perform his featured verse of Kanye West’s track “Praise God”. The track is already a fun and powerful song on its own, but Keem’s verse really solidifies the track, as he holds his own with power house featured artists such as Ye and Travis Scott.

Overall, the show was a 10/10 and a great experience. Even if you are not a huge hip-hop head, you can absolutely appreciate the many details of each show, taking in the contagious atmosphere of this high-energy performer.
