The Passionate, Intimately Mixed Single "tunnel vision" from Bishop Ivy

Pittsburgh based songwriter, Bishop Ivy is an alternative-pop musical artist creating passionate and intimately mixed music. Beginning his journey as a street busker in Boston at only 14-years old, Ivy has garnered attention and support from Live Nation’s Ones to Watch, Flaunt Magazine, American Songwriter, and Earmilk. With inspiration for his music stemming from Frank Ocean, Imogen Heap, Bon Iver, and James Blake, Ivy’s songwriting is beautifully crafted to follow similar styles while maintaining his own version of originality.

In his most recent release, “tunnel vision,” Bishop Ivy hones in on organic instruments mixed with digital sounds to create a contrasting and diverse song. Starting off with an ethereal and almost eerie beeping followed by harmonies, “tunnel vision” is an intriguing song right from the first note. Ivy is able to utilize his powerful falsetto to create a sharp chorus and influence the underlying, sad tone of the track. “This song featured some of my new experiments in production, like recording myself banging around with some tools and turning that into the song’s percussion, and taking a train sample to use sort of as an ominous string section,” Ivy elaborates on the production of the song.

Not only is the melody of the song greatly diverse, but the lyrics are also extremely intricate and emotional. “Tunnel vision” is about the deep-rooted fear that follows the possibility of ending and letting go of a relationship. With lyrics such as, “I’ll bear the cuts and scars,” and “How could I stand tall with no one to break my fall,” Ivy discusses the pain of holding onto the relationship. He elaborates on the lyrics of “tunnel vision,” “I was scared to let go of this person, even if it meant harm would come my way.”

The music video for “tunnel vision” is very dark and slow progressing to add to the effects of the lyrics and melodies. The music video helps to encapsulate the raw and haunting tone of “tunnel vision.” With over 1.5 million streams on Spotify alone, Ivy is a growing artist and his success is evident throughout the creativity of his music.
