Charlotte Sands Releases EP, "Love and Other Lies" Ahead of Tour with The Maine

Charlotte Sands is the voice we need in pop punk today. Or pop rock. Or whatever genres she meshes together, no matter what- it works. After listening to a few songs, I felt like I’ve been missing out. Not only is her blue hair cool, and makes me consider buying a box of blue hair dye, but her music has a voice of its own. Sands’ Love and Other Lies deserves to be listened to in whole. Take the advice of Maggie Rogers' recent TikTok about really listening to a piece of work, because this EP is a great long form statement. It is the kind of EP you can put on for a drive and not have to worry about skipping tracks because each one brings its own spark to the collection.

“Love and Other Lies is a collection of songs written throughout multiple stages of my life and my relationships. Each song represents a different emotion, experience, and chapter that when put together completes an entire story. I’ve changed so much over the last few years, as we all have, so creating a project where each song represents a different piece of my journey instead of focusing on one specific moment felt really important.”

- Charlotte Sands

Made up of seven tracks, including the hit “Dress” which seems like it should’ve been written for Harry Styles, Sands’ EP will have you bopping along and wanting to revert back to your teenage angst days. One of the best tracks, “Keep Me Up All Night”, quotes “Thunder” by Boys Like Girls, which made me immediately nostalgic and rushed to add the song to my queue. People have also been commenting that it reminds them of Hawthorne Heights’ “Ohio is for Lovers.”

“Want You Like That” and “Bad Day” are the kind of songs that deserve to be played at full volume while you sing your heart out to the lyrics. Sands has a knack for creating these personal lyrics that hit home and are bound to be stuck in your head.

The title track slows things down and gets real, while “Every Guy Ever” is the perfect angsty anthem. The 25-year-old shows her range with each track drawing you in with her alluring sound. After listening to this EP, it had me wondering why Sands is not receiving major credit for her craft. She belongs up there with the likes of Avril Lavigne. Sands followed up Love and Other Lies with a new single, “Lost.” It comes just in time for The Maine’s XOXO Tour, which Sands is opening for alongside The Happy Fits.
