OUR STORY

Backward Noise is an Orlando-based digital publication dedicated to the creators. Our passion is in art and music, from garage shows to sold-out venues. We believe in the feeling you get right before a concert starts, or when you finally nail that chord, or when you place the finishing brushstroke on your masterpiece. Backward Noise is by artists for artists; a safe space to embrace the simultaneous chaos and peace that comes with creating.

Founded in May of 2020 by photographer, creative director, and concert-junkie Jade Pike, Backward Noise has established itself as a publication that values the voices behind it--the artists that make the cogs turn. We are nothing without art, and we are nothing without you. So scream that song, play that melody, frame that shot---make inspired noise until it’s backwards. We’re here to listen.

FAQs

Where are you based?

Our founder as well as many of our team members are located in Central Florida, though many of our contributors are located in various regions of the world!

How can I contribute?

We are always looking for likeminded creatives to collaborate with on many of our projects. Our bi-annual issues, centered on a specific theme are open to submissions from anyone around the world. Please refer to our social media channels for more information on the current issue. You may also pitch an idea or send your work to our email at any time for the opportunity to be featured on our website.

How are submissions reviewed and selected?

Our editorial team reviews all submissions to determine if the piece may be a good fit for a feature on our publication. This is determined based on the theme of our current issue (if applicable), quality of work, and the alignment with our brand. Any and all submissions are subject to selection and non-selection. Artists whose work is selected for a feature will be contacted via email.

Are staff positions paid?

Backward Noise is an entirely volunteer-run publication. For the moment, we do not have the resources to pay our contributors, though this is something we are working on for the future! Though our staff does not profit from their contribution, we hope to provide this platform to creatives for the opportunity to gain relevant industry experience in their profession.

Where does the income from print sales go?

All proceeds from our magazine sales will go directly towards fulfilling shipping and printing costs, funding our next issue, as well as website maintenance fees. Until further notice, our team does not individually profit from any sales.
