Carrie Welling - Artist of the Week (05.24)
Carrie Welling is an artist with a gift for songwriting and a heart of gold.
Growing up a military kid, she moved around quite a bit and got to experience different places and interact with various people. Eventually, she settled in New York City where she started playing in a band. Though she enjoyed it, she wanted to work on her solo music, eventually making the move to Nashville to pursue her music career further.
Her anthem song, “Good To Me”, is about her experience trying to ‘make it’ in the music industry. She tells her story and brings it back to the realization that being good and true to herself is important. So many people tried to change her or tell her what she should be. She was lost until she decided to be “good to me” and accept herself.
This self acceptance has led her down many paths. Not only is she a performer, but also a vocal and certified yoga instructor. She leads yoga sessions via Zoom for her fans and anyone else who wants to participate.
Her songs are vulnerable and heartfelt, just listen to “I Don’t Want To Be Friends With You” to get a glimpse. She writes from the heart and lets the world hear her soul from behind the lyrics. It is that realness that gives the vivid storytelling life.
The fans that follow her are called ‘Wellos’. Through her Patreon and her social media pages, Carrie connects with her fans as personally as she can. Monthly Zoom meetings with her Wellos, live virtual shows, and behind the scenes information are just some ways she connects with the people that lift her up.
In addition to her solo music, she is also one half of the duo group Sugar Fitz. Their music is a bit different than her solo stuff. Sugar Fitz is a pop-punk duo she is in with Brianna Sage.
