Introducing Daniel Hex, Detroit, Michigan’s latest rising star within the R&B scene. Making a name for himself since his initial debut “Only” via Soundcloud in 2018, Hex has only steadily grown since, amassing a devoted number of fans and setting his name apart from others. Drawn in by his signature melodic vocals and captivating lyrics from the heart, it’s no surprise that Hex is rapidly growing within the music industry and is sure to be on the radars of R&B fans far beyond the Detroit scene.

Since his youth, Hex has always sought out an outlet to express himself. Despite his attempts to satiate this desire through basketball, he came to the realization that this activity inhibited his inner creativity. Being surrounded by music for the entirety of his early life, he used this inspiration to make the conscious switch to pursue production and songwriting, igniting a fire within himself. Realizing the impact he could have on his community with his music, Hex took the first steps to committing to the music scene and pursuing it full-time by dropping out of college. From this, he was able to master his signature style of production and perfect his approach to the R&B genre.

Steadily evolving from his earlier releases, Hex consistently shows off his silky vocals paired with strong beats and impactful lyrics. Being compared to the likes of Brent Faiyaz and The Weeknd, Hex has already found his footing within the genre and has solidified his place within the music scene. Earlier tracks like “Take Your Time” and “Shadow Pines” highlight his artistry perfectly, showcasing his eloquent approach to songwriting and the dreamy vocals he pairs with it.

With his latest release “Signal Down”, Hex bursts into 2021 with a powerful track bound to end up on countless fans’ playlists. Teaming up with producer Mike Hector, this track takes a more abstract approach than what fans would typically see from Hex. Pairing a bold beat with his signature vocal style, Hex impactfully describes a life without stability - masterfully switching between unease to remedy. Including lyrics such as, “I’m so through with this, it’s a long ride”, he highlights the struggles of a musician and the constant instability he feels within his own life. This open and honest approach to songwriting instills a vulnerable connection with the listener, making the track all the more impactful as his debut into 2021.

The accompanying visualizer for the track further hones into this feeling of instability, making it a perfect addition to his debut for the year. Directed by Liam Walsh, the video stars Hex himself in a series of very angsty and moody shots. Focusing on a palette of mainly toned down greens and blues, grungy clips showcasing Hex out on the streets or drinking draw back to the track’s theme of instability and maneuvering through chaos, constantly seeking a remedy for his plagued mind. Featuring what can be described as a very abstract and, in a sense, chaotic style of editing, the visualizer fully pulls together this release and sets it apart within his discography.

Despite amassing a continuously growing number of fans, Daniel Hex’s motives stay pure. Connected deeply to his community in Detroit and tied to his own brotherly instincts, he aims to give back to the community that raised him and sparked his creativity, amassing resources and support for fellow creatives like himself.

With a dual-release featuring the aforementioned track “Signal Down” and an additional contrasting track, Hex takes his listeners through the chaos that comes along with a life filled with instability and uncertainty. Available to stream now, any fan of heartfelt lyricism and masterful R&B inspired production is sure to be drawn in by Detroit’s rising star Daniel Hex and his latest releases.
