Los Angeles based artist, Raye Robinson, is an indie and alternative pop musician with an exponential amount of talent. Initially performing in bands, Robinson has set her sights on creative control over her own sound and being able to dive into personal songwriting following the pandemic. Robinson plans to release an upcoming EP, “Crushes & Love Songs,” but first teased the album with her debut single, “Daisies.”

“Daisies” is not only an audibly artistic song, but lyrically engaging. Robinson elaborates on the new single, “I ended things with a guy that I was seeing because I was afraid to get into something serious. After we stopped seeing each other, though, I really missed the connection we had and I couldn’t stop wondering ‘Does he miss me too? Does he hate me now? Did I make the right decision?’” In addition to being a song about a confused heart, “Daisies” proves to be a personal message following a youthful love trope in which many can relate to.

Right from the first note, Raye Robinson shows off her sweetly smooth vocals in “Daisies.” The light beat with piano and Robinson’s singing gives the song an initial dream-like feeling that creates this almost calming effect. Then the chorus hits, and girl, does it HIT. The sudden change from soothing, to an intense beat mixed with vibrant synths and a more aggressive vocal projection, reveals the duality of the song. From the background harmonies to her overall range, Robinson conveys the impressive vocal control she has.

“Daisies,” expresses a perplexing love situation that Robinson found herself in the middle of. With the lyrics, “do you love me, do you love me not?” and “do you hate me, do you hate me not?” she brings in the idea of picking flower petals to make a love decision. Robinson discloses, “I immediately loved using the word ‘daisies’ in the hook, and from there, the rest of the song came together pretty quickly.”

With an intoxicating rhythm and a beautiful simplicity, “Daisies” is the type of song you want to listen to on repeat. The contrasting vibe from the relaxing verse to the up-beat chorus to the effervescent outro, “Daisies” is the song I simply can’t stop listening to! Raye Robinson is insanely talented, and I’m eager to hear more from her in the upcoming EP, “Crushes & Love Songs!”
