The Long-Awaited Hella Mega Tour Takes Over Jacksonville's TIAA Bank Field

GREEN DAY PERFORMING AT TIAA BANK FIELD

Almost 2 years after the original announcement of the tour, Jacksonville was finally graced by the long awaited Hella Mega Tour featuring Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day! To refer to this lineup as “stacked” is truly an understatement as this once in a lifetime tour is truly fitting of the term “hella mega”! This action packed event brought a crowd of nearly 32,000 fans to the TIAA Bank Field on Saturday, July 31st.

Following an amazing set by The Interrupters, Weezer was the first headlining act to take the stage. The stage was set with multi colored amps and giant blue lightning bolts framing the iconic Weezer logo above the stage. Their set list covered most of their iconic hits such as “Island in the Sun”, “Buddy Holly”, and “Beverly Hills”, yet included some tracks from their newest album, Van Weezer as well. Overall, Weezer’s performance set the tone for the evening and hyped up the audience for what was to come, ending with a rain of blue, pink, and purple confetti.

Fall Out Boy was the next to take the stage, opening with their track, “The Phoenix”, and LOTS of pyro! This fiery opening (pun intended) proved that Fall Out Boy was not there to mess around and followed with around an hour of career spanning hits. My personal favorite song of the night, “I Don’t Care”, truly showcases Patrick Stump’s vocals live on stage. Lastly, the long awaited final act of the night, Green Day, took the stage by storm. Billie Joe Armstrong captivated the entire stadium with his powerful stage presence, high energy, and insane vocals that prove to be just as amazing (if not better) live than in recordings. Green Day truly ended the night with a bang and wrapped up the show with their hit “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”.

The long awaited return to live music has proven to be worth the wait as artists come back with more drive than ever to put on innovative and insane shows. There’s still time to catch The Hella Mega tour across the US on their remaining tour dates, while European dates are set to take place next summer. You won’t want to miss this insane tour!
