Lauv Brings the All 4 Nothing Tour to Philadelphia's The Met
Lauv
On August 19, I was assigned the task of covering Lauv on the All 4 Nothing tour stop in Philadelphia. When I first heard he was going back on tour, I was excited from the jump. With this being my third time covering the artist, I knew this is an artist that’s very fun to see live. The way he interacts with his fans during his sets and the energy he puts into his performances was always an experience. Not to mention, his new album is one of his best bodies of works. Knowing all this information, I was very eager for my trip to the Met to catch his performance.
When arriving at the venue around 7:49 pm, the first thing I realized was that this was the most people I've seen gathering for a Lauv concert. This was also my first time photographing at the acclaimed Met Philadelphia venue which holds 3,500 people. Before Lauv graced the stage, we got an amazing performance by the lovely Hayley Kiyoko. Hayley Kiyoko is an artist that’s been on my radar since my high school days from 2016. Her music is very vibrant with positive messages along with her tracks. Seeing her live with her voice and impeccable dance moves was a breath of fresh air as well. Experiencing tracks “Girls like Girls” and “Curious” live was something I didn’t know I needed to hear.
Around 9:00 pm, fog starts to gather around the venue stage and the stage lights turn pitch black. This in mind, everyone knew it was time for Lauv to take the stage. Lauv starts his set by playing the most suitable track to open the tour, “26”. “26” is the opening track on the new album, and honestly, my favorite song on the project. After that, he pivots into “Kids Are Born Stars” then goes into older fan favorite music. One thing that really intrigued me about his performance was his stage lighting and light board effects. One of my favorite details was the bold blue and purple colors along with sights of the moon, lyrics and a glass window along with some songs. Another highlight of the show was when Lauv performed “Fuck, I’m Lonely”. Even after hearing this song for the third time live, he still performs it with the same intensity and genuine energy as ever before.
