PVRIS Brings Out the Monster in Philadelphia
Headlining Philadelphia on the Summer 2021 Tour, PVRIS brings the heat to the city. A packed Union Transfer full of passionate fans filled the venue. It’s refreshing to be back in front of an alive stage after seeing the very same venue boarded up just less than a year ago.
The show began with Royal and the Serpent. You may recognize their song “Overwhelmed” from the social media app TikTok. Heads were banging the entire set with middle fingers raised during the song “Phuck You”. Fans also went wild when the group covered Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams”. The crowd erupted with joy and sang along to the upbeat, heavy take on the song.
Once PVRIS took the stage, a red light lit up the band as they performed their latest single “Monster”. Lynn Gunn’s vocal performance sounded just as good, if not better than the studio recordings live. The majority of the set consisted of songs off of the band’s most recent record, Use Me. It was funny to see some members of the crowd come in so casually and calmly, then to see them do a complete 180, going completely wild for PVRIS’ performance. Dancing and singing along was not uncommon in the pit. Lynn celebrated coming back to the stage by thanking the crowd for staying safe, getting vaccinated, and respectively wearing masks during the band's performance. She exclaimed that she couldn’t do it without her amazing fan base. For many fans, this was their first show back after the rise of COVID-19. It was my first time seeing PVRIS, and I’d happily see them again. In my opinion, it was an excellent introduction back into live music.
