As a first generation Indian-American, I was immediately drawn to singer/songwriter Amsi and her most recent single, “Jeete Raho”. “Jeete Raho” translates to “live long”, and sends a powerful message to the millions of immigrants around the world to find power in their identity. The track is uplifting, hopeful, and a call for celebrating one’s own cultural identity.

Amsi is an immigrant herself who was born in Germany but raised in the United States. She is extremely proud of her multicultural upbringing and sings, “Immigrated to the states but I don’t forget the culture / Red, white, blue, orange and green / Yeah look at all my colors.” This sentiment is reflected musically in the song as well, which contains a blend of South Asian instruments and modern pop beats.

Currently NYC-based, Amsi has performed all around the city in famous venues, such as Bowery Electric and The Knitting Factory. During quarantine, she headlined her “What Did I Miss?” Virtual World Tour, where fans around the world were able to watch her perform live and celebrate her music safely from their screens.

“Jeete Raho” follows singles “With Love” and “Sweet Sugar Spice”, setting her on track to release her anticipated EP this year. You can find “Jeete Raho” on all digital platforms, as well as an accompanying lyric video on Youtube.
