Farah Bijou - Artist of the Week (04.12)
Nineteen year-old Farah Bijou is a singer, songwriter, and producer currently based in Tallahassee, Florida. The young artist loves fusing genres with her producer ROY P. and taking influence from the sounds of R&B, funk, pop, and EDM in her pursuit of not putting herself in the box that is conforming to a single genre. While writing music, she likes to think of some of her personal inspirations such as Ari Lennox, Eryka Badu, and Aretha Franklin to emulate the timelessness and wide spread love of their songs.
She loves to spread the message of self-love and positivity through her music. In her debut single “Taking my Time” (feat. ROY P.) she talks about her journey of self-love and the process of breaking away from a toxic and negative mindset. She says, “Of course this is an ever-evolving journey and will be a lifelong one, because I’m always growing and changing and striving to be better. But at the time of writing this song, I really felt like I had finally learned to love myself and be okay with being alone for the first time.” Throughout the song, she describes what it’s like to be dependent on herself in order for her to feel confidence and happiness. With this song as well as her up and coming EP, she hopes to inspire others into finding confidence and empowerment within themselves. Bijou does an amazing job at telling her story through her lyrics. One of her favorite lyrics from the track is, “Unlocked my mind, and found my divine”, which really embodies the idea that once you take time to yourself and look inside you will find that sense of empowerment that you have been looking for all along.
