Sydney Gorgeous - Artist of the Week (02.01)

Alternative pop singer-songwriter Sydney Gorgeous is no stranger to writing about relationships and the ups and downs that come along with them. At a young age, Sydney was heavily inspired by icons like Madonna and Janet Jackson, and used this inspiration to begin writing songs and playing the guitar. In an interview I held with her, she stated, “The way they made me feel is how I want to make people feel”. This sentiment is certainly clear in her emotional and honest single, “1 time”.
“1 time” follows the release of Sydney’s debut album, just in case i die, and is a collaboration with the artist Keagan. It was written as a conversation between two people at the breaking point in their relationship. Sydney shared the inspiration behind the song, "... a lot of people have cheated and most people have been cheated on, us [Sydney + Keagan] included. So we wanted to capture the emotional shithole you go through when you are in this situation". The instrumental components of the song are simple and repetitive, making it incredibly effective in drawing listeners to really focus on the lyrics and feeling of heartbreak.
If you are eager to hear more from Sydney, you don’t have to wait long. This Friday, February 5th, she is releasing another heartbreak anthem titled “away”. Sydney informed me that she wrote this song as a way to heal from a past relationship. She added, “I hope any person going through a break up can dance and cry to this song in their kitchen or bedroom or when the world opens in the club”.
