NYC-based artist and musician, Devon Gordon (The RoseCrumbs), is reviving rock with a fun and bright influence through her debut single “Sunflower.” The track boasts melodies highly influenced by both classic and psychedelic rock, mixing together upbeat pop elements with electrifying energy.

With “Sunflower,” Devon aims to bring a fresh atmosphere to the traditional rock scene. Inspired by classic bands like Rush, Boston, and Nirvana, this song proudly wears its influences on its sleeve.

“I think rock nowadays has lost its fun edge.”

When describing the goal of her sound she reflects, “I’m having fun with rock. It doesn’t have to be this thing that has to be a solitary genre. I want it to be something more mainstream and accessible that puts you in a good mood.” As for the name, “The RoseCrumbs,” she cites her inspiration from classic, short band names with feminine imagery like Mudhoney and Pearl Jam.

Drawing inspiration from solo artists who record and write under a band name, she set out to do the same on “Sunflower,” as well as the rest of the tracks on her upcoming EP. She recorded the vocals, guitars, and bass herself, with the help of Steven Perkins from Jane’s Addiction on drums. With COVID making virtual means of collaborating a mainstream practice, she “just sent him the tracks and he worked his magic.” On the topic of their collaboration she notes, “I think the songs were good for him because it gave him room to incorporate his style.”

In the future, she plans to combine her artistic background with her music stating, “I love working in visual mediums so to be able to combine my music and art would be amazing and it’s something I haven’t explored yet. I think a music video would be the perfect medium for that.”

With her EP on the horizon, she looks forward to a time when it will be fully safe to perform live again. This EP will capture the same vibe as “Sunflower,” delivering similarly catchy choruses and rock-influenced riffs. Overall, The RoseCrumb’s, “Sunflower,” is a unique track that all-around exemplifies a new age of rock.
